Planning & Community Development
The Department of Planning and Community Development guides the physical and economic development of the city. The department:
- Administers and updates the City of Portage Zoning Ordinance, including Zoning Map, and Subdivision Control Ordinance
- Assists petitioners with application procedures for the Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Development Review Committee
- Facilitates the translation of community values, goals, and objectives into everyday relationships with the built and natural environments
- Prepares and maintains long-range growth strategies, including the City of Portage Comprehensive Plan, City of Portage Northside Master Plan, Central Avenue Business District Master Plan, and planning south of U.S. Highway 6
- Provides staff support to the Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Development Review Committee
